Prices

What tree removal costs in Washington

Two bids for the same fir can differ by a thousand dollars. Most of that gap comes from access, height and cleanup, so make every bidder price the same job.

Typical ranges

  • Average removal in Washington: $550 to $800 (Angi).
  • By height, nationally: up to 30 ft $150 to $450; 30 to 60 ft $450 to $1,200; 60 to 80 ft $800 to $1,500; over 80 ft $1,000 to $2,000.
  • Stump removal: $100 to $150 for the first stump.
  • Trimming: $270 to $1,800, average $460 (HomeAdvisor).
  • An arborist visit or assessment: $750 to $1,000 on average (HomeAdvisor).

What pushes the number up

  1. Access. Angi puts tight or hard-to-reach trees at 25 to 50 percent more.
  2. Targets. A tree leaning over the house or wires needs rigging, and sometimes a crane.
  3. Storm timing. Emergency removals after a storm carry a premium; Angi cites cases near $5,000.
  4. Cleanup. Hauling logs, chipping brush and grinding the stump are often separate lines.

Labor costs more here too. Tree trimmers in the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue area earned a median $32.75 an hour in May 2025, against $24.50 nationally. (BLS)

Making bids comparable

Write one scope and read it to every company: which trees, cut to what height or removed to grade, stump ground or left, wood hauled or stacked. Ask each for the price in writing with their L&I registration number on it. A registered contractor must give you a signed Notice to Customer on residential jobs of $1,000 or more. (RCW 18.27.114)

Before a storm removal

If a tree has hit the house, call your insurer and ask what they need from you before the crew cuts it up. Then hire from the list and check the registration on L&I Verify.
